I arrived in the snow 9 years ago and I still have fond memories of frolicking on the slippery slopes, and my Dad building me tunnels where I could slide down on my tummy..

Sono arrivato nella neve 9 anni fa e ho ancora bei ricordi di amoreggiare sulle piste scivolose, e il mio papà mi realizzazione di gallerie, dove ho potuto scivolare giù sulla mia pancia ..

Il blues Santo Stefano e soffiando via le ragnatele. Una magnifica giornata con una brezza fresca di montagna, e una vista che è sempre mozzafiato. Con o senza di me .. (io scherzo ovviamente!)

Comnago revisited..Comnago rivisitato.

Comnago revisited . How often do we drive for kilometres to find a scenic walk, when so often the beauty is on your own "door step" so close to home.
This afternoon was a perfect example of how a brief stroll, turned into an impromptu trek of about 12 kilometres. I needed the physical exercise after a recent illness which has left me a little low in stamina, and muscles lacking  in lustre. This burst of spontaneity was further encouraged by the wonderful sunshine, which tends to transform all and everything into the spectacular,moreover it lifts the human spirits and makes you appreciate things that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
And so with my already aching back,swollen ankle,and painful foot, I departed Stropino through the forest trails towards Cologna, and then after 6 kilometres I  realized  I was  so committed that it  would have been pointless to return, so onwards to Comnago, at least this brought me in a homeward in a circular direction. Pepper my border collie kept me entertained along the trail although he's a bit of a geriatric himself now and suffers with arthritis requiring us to take frequent stops. Thankfully I had a few of his favourite biscuits in my pocket which served as an incentive to complete the course, just as well, as there are no buses or taxis in this remote region.I have included a few photo's below which capture an almost Autumnal scene with the setting sun in the distant mountains giving the woodland a warm glow, and the little cottages a cheerful tint... A hot bath now for the aching limbs, but a lovely afternoon well spent.
 Comnago rivisitato. Quanto spesso guidiamo per chilometri per trovare una passeggiata panoramica, quando spesso la bellezza è da soli "porta passo" così vicino a casa.

Questo pomeriggio è stato un esempio perfetto di come una breve passeggiata, si trasformò in un trekking improvvisato di circa 12 chilometri. Avevo bisogno di esercizio fisico, dopo una recente malattia che mi ha lasciato un po 'basso in resistenza, e manca muscoli lustro. Questo scoppio di spontaneità è stata ulteriormente incoraggiata dal sole meraviglioso che trasforma tutto e tutti nella spettacolare, inoltre solleva gli spiriti umani e ti fa apprezzare le cose che sarebbero altrimenti passate inosservate.

E così con la mia già schiena dolorante, caviglia gonfia, e il piede doloroso, mi partì Stropino attraverso i sentieri dei boschi in direzione Cologna, e poi dopo 6 km ero così impegnato sarebbe stato inutile tornare, così poi a Comnago, almeno questo mi ha portato in un verso casa in senso circolare. Pepper mio border collie mi ha tenuto intrattenuto lungo la pista, anche se è un po 'un geriatrica se stesso ora e soffre con l'artrite ci impone di prendere soste frequenti. Per fortuna ho avuto alcuni dei suoi biscotti preferiti in tasca, che serviva come un incentivo per completare il corso, altrettanto bene, come non ci sono autobus o taxi in questa remota region.I hanno incluso un paio di foto di sotto del quale la cattura quasi autunnale scena con il sole al tramonto tra le montagne lontane dando il bosco una luce calda, e le casette una tinta allegra ... un bagno caldo ora gli arti doloranti, ma un bel pomeriggio ben speso.

Another wonderful day, fresh and invigorating, a day to give thanks for all the beauty that surrounds us. 
This continued dry weather has me dashing back and forth catching up with lots of outside work that should have been completed months ago. Even sweeping the leaves becomes pleasurable with views like this. On the inside of the house I have just finished cleaning and repainting the guest rooms as we have lots of enquiries and bookings for early in 2015 and even have guests arriving over the Christmas period through to the New Year...busy busy but also very satisfying, our service and hospitality have gained us further recognition with another Certificate of excellence awarded!
A few photo's taken at dusk of Lake Maggiore looking towards Laveno-Mombello, and also across to Caterina del Sasso, this view also takes in Arolo which has a fabulous quiet beach..one to remember for warmer days.
 Un altro giorno meraviglioso, fresco e rigenerante, un giorno per rendere grazie per tutta la bellezza che ci circonda.

Questo tempo asciutto continuato mi è focoso e indietro recuperando con un sacco di lavoro al di fuori che avrebbe dovuto essere completato mesi fa. Anche spazzare le foglie diventa piacevole con vista come questo. All'interno della casa che ho appena finito di pulire e ridipingere le camere, come abbiamo un sacco di richieste di informazioni e prenotazioni per l'inizio del 2015 e hanno anche gli ospiti che arrivano nel periodo natalizio fino al nuovo anno ... occupato occupato, ma anche molto soddisfacente, il nostro servizio e l'ospitalità ci hanno ottenuto un ulteriore riconoscimento con un altro certificato di eccellenza premiato!

Alcuni di foto scattata al tramonto del Lago Maggiore, guardando verso Laveno-Mombello, e anche attraverso a Caterina del Sasso, questa visione prende anche in Arolo che ha una favolosa beach..one tranquilla da ricordare per i giorni più caldi.

"Another dry day"..."Un altro giorno asciutto"

"Another dry day with blue skies and snow capped mountains" the realization is difficult to believe as we have become so accustomed to a grey drab half light,always accompanied by persistent driven rain.The ground is sodden and all around us are weary looking saturated shrubs, dishevelled and appearing abandoned. It's difficult to imagine the hard work and care that has gone into growing these plants, or how normally they burst with vibrant healthy foliage . Today even in this sunshine they look tired and sad as though by neglect. Maybe tomorrow if this weather remains I could try a heavy mulch of donkeys dung, or better still some mature stallion shit..It can work miracles and maybe just be the tonic that would strengthen and fortify the weakened limbs before the winter snows arrive.
 "Un altro giorno asciutto con cielo azzurro e le montagne innevate" la realizzazione è difficile credere come siamo diventati così abituati a mezza luce grigia grigia, sempre accompagnata da persistente terra rain.The guidato è fradicio e tutto intorno a noi sono stanchi cercando saturi arbusti, scarmigliato e apparendo abbandonati. E 'difficile immaginare il duro lavoro e la cura che è andato in coltivare queste piante, o come normalmente scoppiano con vibrante fogliame sano. Oggi anche in questo sole si guardano stanco e triste, come se per negligenza. Forse domani se questo tempo rimane ho potuto provare un pesante pacciame di asini sterco, o meglio ancora qualche maturo stallone shit..It può fare miracoli e forse solo essere il tonico che rafforzerebbe e fortificare gli arti indeboliti prima delle nevi invernali arrivano.

Pre Christmas activity..Pre attività Natale

This years pre Christmas activity has been energized by some very welcome winter sunshine. Folks have been scurrying round like "worker ants". I managed some further preparations in the log store,and by way of a diversion from further physical tasks opted to post some last minute Christmas parcels. And what a shock I got. The post office has undergone a degree of privatization and today the full impact of the expected price rises knocked me sideways. Three little boxes containing typical Italian seasonal chocolates, nougat , and sugared fruits ..cost over €25 just for posting ONE box to the UK, not including the value of the little gift. The Christmas postage for cards have risen over 25%. such is the spirit of Christmas..it's akin to Piracy! 
Having recovered from the postal cost, I was then greeted by a flat tyre, although thankfully this was attended to without delay at minimal cost.
Whilst the sun was still shining I drove down to Stresa to do some shopping, it's quite pleasurable at this time of year, as parking is available everywhere. Also this was a good opportunity to have a hair cut without queueing., I can't abide waiting in hairdressers salons it's worse than the dentists for me!
On the drive home I made sure to wear my woolly hat after the "spuntatina" (hair trim) as the temperatures are almost at freezing point,and tonight is forecast for minus -3°c . Below are a few photo's I took at Vedasco on the way back up the mountain.
 Questo anni pre attività Natale è stato alimentato da qualche raggio di sole benvenuti inverno. Gente sono stati correvano rotonda come "formiche operaie". Sono riuscito alcune ulteriori preparativi nel negozio log, e per mezzo di una deviazione da ulteriori compiti fisici optato per pubblicare alcuni pacchi natalizi dell'ultimo minuto. E che sorpresa ho ottenuto. L'ufficio postale ha subito un certo grado di privatizzazione e di oggi il pieno impatto degli aumenti dei prezzi attesi me buttato di traverso. Tre piccole scatole contenenti cioccolatini tipici italiani stagionali, torrone e frutta zuccherate ..cost over 25 € solo per la pubblicazione di una casella nel Regno Unito, non compreso il valore del piccolo regalo. L'affrancatura di Natale per le schede sono aumentati oltre il 25%. tale è lo spirito di Christmas..it di simile a pirateria!

Dopo aver recuperato dal costo postale, sono stato poi accolto da una gomma a terra, anche se per fortuna questo è stato curato senza indugio ad un costo minimo.

Mentre il sole splende ancora ho guidato fino a Stresa per fare shopping, è abbastanza piacevole in questo periodo dell'anno, in quanto è disponibile il parcheggio ovunque. Anche questa è stata una buona occasione per avere un taglio di capelli senza fare la coda., Non posso rispettare attesa nei parrucchieri saloni è peggio che i dentisti per me!

Sulla casa di passeggiata ho fatto in modo di indossare il cappello di lana, dopo il "spuntatina" (assetto capelli) le temperature sono quasi al punto di congelamento, e si prevede stasera per meno -3 ° C. A broody sky...Un cielo broody

A "broody sky" is my last effort with a paint brush before the Christmas holidays. Our painting classes resume in January 2015 and I'm hoping to be capturing an image that is a little more bright and cheerful. I like dramatic subjects but I suspect the turbulence portrayed here is a reflection of my mood after months of appalling weather.
May I take this opportunity to wish my fellow Bloggers, patrons and friends of La Casa del Giardiniere, a very Happy Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

Un cielo broody" è il mio ultimo tentativo con un pennello prima delle vacanze di Natale. I nostri corsi di pittura riprendere a gennaio 2015 e spero di essere la cattura di un'immagine che è un po 'più luminoso e allegro. Mi piace soggetti drammatici, ma ho il sospetto che la turbolenza raffigurato qui è un riflesso del mio stato d'animo dopo mesi di tempo spaventoso.

The dismal weather continues...E il tempo lugubre continua

Almost December and the dismal weather continues, yesterday was so horrible we never saw daylight. It remained grey and miserable, with a continuous murky mist swirling and clingy rain adding further to the already saturated ground. When will it end ?
 Quasi dicembre e il tempo lugubre continua, ieri era così orribile non abbiamo mai visto la luce del giorno. È rimasto grigio e miserabile, con un continuo torbida vorticoso nebbia e pioggia appiccicosa aggiungendo ulteriore a terra già saturo. Quando finirà?

A timely gesture to meet for Sunday lunch prompted a lovely reunion of some of Penny's old dance colleagues and friends. We enjoyed a fabulous warm welcome (as always) at the Ristorante Locanda Verbena, together with beautifully presented food, in a really cosy setting..I think the photo's attached convey the festive atmosphere.
Many thanks once again to Paola, Loredana, and Luciano for all their hard work in hosting us all, and for making this afternoon quiet memorable.

Una riunione pre Natale con i colleghi e gli amici

Un gesto tempestivo per incontrarsi per il pranzo della Domenica ha indotto una bella riunione di alcuni vecchi colleghi e amici di ballo di Penny. Ci siamo goduti una favolosa accoglienza (come sempre) al Ristorante Locanda Verbena, insieme a ben cibo presentato, in una realtà accogliente setting..I pensa della foto allegata trasmettere l'atmosfera di festa.

Molte grazie ancora una volta a Paola, Loredana, e Luciano per tutto il loro duro lavoro in tutti noi, hosting e per rendere questo tranquillo pomeriggio memorabile.

 

 

Casa Mailinne...between Baveno & Feriolo..on scenic Lake Maggiore

This morning I visited Italian friends who own "Casa Mailinne"..(so named I guess after their two charming daughters) The Property is situated between Baveno and Feriolo with breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore.
This a new family venture where they have allocated an apartment for guests which is within their household, but provides private and independent access. It is spacious,light and airy, and very well equipped with a lovely sunny lounge and fully fitted kitchen, a family bedroom, with both a double bed and a single bed, together with a cot if required. Questa mattina ho visitato amici italiani che possiedono "Casa Mailinne" .. (così chiamato Credo che dopo le loro due figlie di charme) La struttura è situata tra Baveno e Feriolo, con vista mozzafiato sul Lago Maggiore.

Questa è una nuova avventura di famiglia dove hanno assegnato un appartamento per gli ospiti, che è all'interno del loro nucleo familiare, ma offre accesso privato e indipendente. E 'spazioso, luminoso e arioso, e molto ben attrezzata con un bel salone luminoso e una cucina completamente attrezzata, una camera da letto della famiglia, sia con un letto matrimoniale e un letto singolo, insieme ad una culla, se necessario. Buon giorno sole, bentornato. Quanto tempo ci dimentichiamo ciò che è andato prima.

A sense of urgency for those last minute jobs.Un senso di urgenza guida le mia attivita'

A sense of urgency guides my activities today for those last minute jobs in the garden knowing that winter conditions are imminent. That said we normally enjoy a few good weeks before Christmas of bright sunny weather with still a generous display of colour. This afternoon is a classic example of how the weather can change within minutes.
Other to do items this week are. Change the car tyres, for special winter tyres, now obligatory in the Province Piedmonte. Replenish the wood store and turn the existing logs to ensure that they are well seasoned. The food pantry, it is essential to fill the shelves with basic provisions just in case heavy snow falls should cut us off. This happens very rarely but with freak weather now always in prospect, it's not the time for complacency. 
 Un senso di urgenza guida le mie attività oggi per quei lavori last minute in giardino sapendo che le condizioni invernali sono imminenti. Detto che normalmente godiamo alcuni buoni settimane prima di Natale luminoso di tempo soleggiato con ancora un display generoso di colore. Questo pomeriggio è un classico esempio di come il tempo può cambiare in pochi minuti.

Altri articoli per fare questa settimana sono. Modificare i pneumatici auto, pneumatici speciali invernali, ora obbligatorie nella Provincia Piemonte. Riempire la legnaia e ruotare i registri esistenti per garantire che essi siano ben stagionato. La dispensa alimentare, è indispensabile per riempire gli scaffali con disposizioni di base solo nel caso in cui le cadute di neve pesante ci deve tagliare. Ciò accade molto raramente, ma con un clima strano ora sempre in prospettiva, non è il momento di compiacersi.

First snow on the mountains!
Last night as the heavy rain abated, temperatures plummeted and this morning we woke to our first snow on the mountains. I guess that means "WELCOME WINTER brrrrrrr!" The saving grace is that sunshine is forecast for the next 10 days, maybe that's our little reward for all the recent hardship.

Ieri sera la pioggia cessò, le temperature sono crollati e questa mattina ci siamo svegliati con la prima neve sulle montagne. Immagino che significa "WELCOME WINTER brrrrrr!" La grazia salvifica è che è previsto sole per i prossimi 10 giorni, forse è la nostra piccola ricompensa per tutte le recenti difficoltà.
