Donkey rides, an Edwardian scene.I've tried to capture the warmth and the sense of excitement of those endless summer days on the beach. For me the very mention of the name donkey immediately evokes the distinctive odour of these gentle creatures Not offensive but as endearing as a new born baby. 
 Asino e Edwardian scene.I hanno cercato di catturare il calore e il senso di eccitazione di quei giorni d'estate senza fine sulla spiaggia. Per me la sola menzione del nome evoca immediatamente asino l'odore caratteristico di queste creature gentili non offensivo ma accattivanti come un bambino appena nato.

Two seasons in one day. I cannot believe that within only a few hours Stropino has been transformed from a bone freezing Siberia to a warm and inviting Riviera.. I've even hung the washing out, ever the optimist. 
Due stagioni in un giorno. Non posso credere che nel giro di poche ore Stropino è stato trasformato da un osso congelamento Siberia per un caldo e accogliente Riviera .. Ho anche appeso il lavaggio fuori, sempre ottimista.

"The arrival of Cyclone Hooligan". Just when I had confidently predicted "Spring was in the air" we woke yet again this Sunday morning to deathly silence that normally accompanies a deep blanket of snow.  Added to which no electricity!!
Thankfully by mid morning normality had returned together with the power which we take so much for granted. A few photo's of the village , and views towards the cemetry and church at Nocco, and towering above the vale of clouds is Mottarone, already crowded with eager skiers..

 "L'arrivo di Ciclone Hooligan". Proprio quando avevo fiducia previsto "Primavera era nell'aria" ci siamo svegliati ancora una volta questa Domenica mattina mortalmente silenzio che normalmente accompagna una profonda coltre di neve. Aggiunto a che l'elettricità !!
Per fortuna a metà normalità mattina era tornato con il potere che diamo tanto per scontata. Qualche foto del villaggio, e vista verso il cimitero e la chiesa a Nocco, e che sovrasta la valle di nubi è Mottarone, già affollate di sciatori desiderosi ..

A better day in prospect, with a warm front pushing up from the south and sunshine by Thursday. Today and tomorrow are being taken as a long weekend to celebrate "Carnevale"
Un giorno migliore in prospettiva, con un fronte caldo che spinge da sud e il sole da Giovedi. Oggi e domani sono prese come un lungo weekend per festeggiare "Carnevale"
What is Carnevale in Italy?
Carnevale is the last celebration before lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Lent has historically been the time before Easter when many Catholics deprive themselves of something they enjoy. The thought is to party until you drop and spend the period of Lent recovering.
Celebrations are held all over Italy from Venice and Milan down to the villages and towns of Sicily. The celebration of Carnevale is the Italian version of Mardi Gras in New Orleans with oranges instead of beads.
Many of the biggest celebrations are on Martedi Grasso or Fat Tuesday.

Carnevale è l'ultima celebrazione prima di Quaresima inizia il Mercoledì delle Ceneri. Quaresima è stato storicamente il tempo prima di Pasqua, quando molti cattolici si priva di qualcosa di cui godono. Il pensiero è fare festa fino a cadere e trascorrere il periodo della Quaresima recupero.

Celebrazioni si svolgono in tutta Italia da Venezia e Milano fino ai villaggi e città della Sicilia. La celebrazione del Carnevale è la versione italiana di Mardi Gras a New Orleans con arance invece di perline.

Molti dei più grandi celebrazioni sono in Martedi Grasso e Martedì Grasso.

Power down Sunday..Spegnimento Domenica..

Power down Sunday. Heavy falls of snow last night brought chaos to Stropino as power cables came down with the sheer weight of the wet snow, not the quantity. leaving us without electric light, and heating for most of the day. Thankfully we have an open log fire in the lounge, and a gas hob for cooking so all was not lost!
In situations like this it gives you the opportunity to attend to all the really boring jobs you keep putting off, or avoiding. The files in our office are bulging with correspondence, receipts, and sundry paper work much of which are years old, and totally useless, so today has been the perfect opportunity to clear the old, and restore some order. A tiresome job, but very satisfying now it's complete.
The electricity has just been restored which was announced in true Italian style with the celebratory peel of the church bells ringing with great enthusiasm  for at least 15 minutes, I could hear the shouts of joys from the villagers, almost like a siege was over. Our first priority now was to prepare our Sunday lunch, albeit delayed, all that snow shovelling certainly gives you an appetite.

 Spegnimento Domenica. Cadute pesanti di neve la notte scorsa hanno portato il caos Stropino come cavi di alimentazione è venuto giù con il puro peso della neve bagnata, non la quantità. lasciandoci senza luce elettrica e riscaldamento per la maggior parte della giornata. Per fortuna abbiamo un caminetto nel salotto, e un piano cottura a gas per cucinare in modo non tutto era perduto!

In situazioni come questa ti dà la possibilità di assistere a tutti i posti di lavoro molto noioso continui a rimandare, o evitando. I file nel nostro ufficio sono sporgenti con la corrispondenza, le ricevute, e lavoro di carta diversi molti dei quali sono anni, e del tutto inutile, così oggi è stata l'occasione ideale per cancellare il vecchio, e ristabilire un certo ordine. Un lavoro faticoso, ma molto soddisfacente adesso è completa.

L'energia elettrica è stato appena restaurato che è stato annunciato in vero stile italiano con la buccia celebrativo delle campane della chiesa di chiamata con grande entusiasmo per almeno 15 minuti, potevo sentire le grida di gioia dagli abitanti del villaggio, quasi come un assedio era finita. La nostra prima priorità ora è stato quello di preparare il nostro pranzo della Domenica, anche se in ritardo, tutto ciò che spalare la neve certamente ti dà un appetito.

It seems strange when the snow remains thick on the ground that our guests can contemplate holidays, but I suppose this state of preparedness is part of the fun, the planning, the "deal busters", the "special offers" ..alora

Come marce febbraio su questo mi lascia ben poco tempo per perseguire i miei quadri, come le prenotazioni per il bed and breakfast stanno arrivando tutti i giorni ora. Sembra strano quando la neve rimane spessa per il motivo che i nostri ospiti possono contemplare le vacanze, ma suppongo che questo stato di preparazione è parte del divertimento, la pianificazione, le "busters deal", le "offerte speciali" ..alora

Fantastic blue skies in abundance..Cielo azzurro in abbondanza fantastico

Fantastic Blue skies in abundance today, following a sequence of strong gusty winds blowing all those grubby grey clouds away. With the good weather here to stay for at least a few weeks, bookings at La Casa del Giardiniere Bed and Breakfast have been unseasonably brisk, May and June are almost fully booked, so a good season in prospect speriamo!
 Cielo azzurro in abbondanza fantastico oggi, a seguito di una serie di forti raffiche di vento che soffiano tutte quelle sporche nuvole grigie di distanza. Con il bel tempo qui a rimanere per almeno un paio di settimane, prenotazioni presso La Casa del Giardiniere Bed and Breakfast sono stati insolitamente vivace, maggio e giugno sono quasi al completo, quindi una buona stagione in prospettiva speriamo!

Come on Dad let's get back and light the fire.Whilst Pepper cannot voice his opinion he has subtle ways of conveying his intentions. This week forecast looks to be littered with snow flurries varying in intensity. The severity is hard to predict because of the local terrain, where from one village to the next can be another 300 metres above see level.
A very grey walk this morning,starting at 0°c and nudging a degree upwards, causing pockets of clingy fog ...I echo Peppers sentiments, the warmth of the house does hold a brighter prospect, I also have a new painting which I started yesterday of the Tobacconist shop and Bar in Massino. A ramshackle building with lots of bright gourdy hoardings, displays for journals and posters of forthcoming village events. It's an interesting photograph but a tedious subject to paint,very fiddly, and requiring a steady hand and lots of patience. The latter of which eludes me these days. Alora I've started and I always finish, which in itself is quite rewarding and whiles away the hours in these grim winter days. 
 Vieni papà torniamo e accendere il fuocco . Pepper non può esprimere la sua opinione ha modi sottili di trasmettere le sue intenzioni. Questa settimana previsione sembra essere disseminato di raffiche di neve variabili in intensità. La gravità è difficile da prevedere a causa del terreno locale, dove da un villaggio all'altro può essere un altro a 300 metri slm.

Una passeggiata molto grigia di questa mattina, a partire a 0 ° C e spingendo un grado alto, causando sacche di nebbia appiccicosa ... mi associo Peperoni sentimenti, il calore della casa non tenere una prospettiva più luminoso, ho anche un nuovo dipinto che ho iniziato ieri del tabaccheria e bar in Massino. Un edificio fatiscente con un sacco di cartelloni Gourdy luminose, visualizza per riviste e manifesti delle prossime manifestazioni paesane. E 'una fotografia interessante ma un soggetto noioso per dipingere, molto laborioso, e richiede una mano ferma e tanta pazienza. L'ultima delle quali mi sfugge in questi giorni. Alora ho iniziato e ho sempre finire, che di per sé è molto gratificante e inganna le ore in questi giorni invernali torvi.

A brisk walk before dusk is what I promised "Pepper". Monday is always a chaotic day because besides all my household chores, shopping and preparing lunch, I try and squeeze a few hours  at my painting class in the afternoon.
On my way home I took a spontaneous photograph of the shepherds house with the mountains and the setting sun as a backdrop.
In reality the moment was spectacular,heightened only by the solitary stillness. The resultant image was disappointing and made worse by an unsightly telegraph pole!! how frustrating, surrounded by all this beauty and bloody wires everywhere!!
 Una camminata veloce prima del tramonto è quello che ho promesso "Pepper". Lunedi è sempre una giornata caotica, perché oltre a tutto il mio restauro di casa, shopping e preparare il pranzo, ho cercare di spremere un paio d'ore alla mia classe di pittura nel pomeriggio.

Sulla mia strada di casa ho fatto una fotografia spontanea della casa pastori con le montagne e il sole al tramonto come sfondo.

In realtà, il momento era spettacolare, accresciuta solo per la quiete solitaria. L'immagine risultante è stato deludente e aggravata da un palo del telegrafo brutto !! come frustrante, circondato da tutta questa bellezza e fili sanguinose ovunque !!

Due to strong demand we have extended our painting courses, to the 21st of March 2015. Under the watchful eye of our professional teacher Patrizia Pollato our guests have enjoyed hours of enjoyment, together with making new friends and extending their painting skills.
