A long busy weekend in Italy to celebrate "Liberation Day" and more locally the agricultural and craft fair in Graglia. Un lungo weekend impegnativo in Italia per celebrare la "Festa della Liberazione" e più localmente la fiera dell'agricoltura e dell'artigianato di Graglia

"The Liberation Day" celebrates the liberation of Italy from Nazism and Fascism and gives an opportunity for a long weekend of frenzied activities. Locally we have the Graglia Agricultural Show and Craft Fair. This attracts a huge attendance, from far and near, an occasion for all the family, particularly with all the prized lifestock. Parking is always a major issue, with cars abandoned in the most ingenious of fashions, usually requiring a long walk to the stalls, but well worth the effort.             La Festa della Liberazione" celebra la liberazione dell'Italia dal nazismo e dal fascismo e offre l'occasione per un lungo fine settimana di attività frenetiche. A livello locale abbiamo la Mostra dell'Agricoltura e Fiera dell'Artigianato di Graglia. Questo attira una grande partecipazione, da lontano e da vicino, un'occasione per tutta la famiglia, in particolare con tutto il bestiame pregiato. Il parcheggio è sempre un grosso problema, con le auto abbandonate nella più ingegnosa delle mode, che di solito richiedono una lunga camminata fino alle bancarelle, ma ne vale la pena.

Oggi ho acquistato un bastone da passeggio in legno di nocciolo (leggero e molto resistente), ideale per portare i cani e sostenere i miei arti invecchiati. Today I purchased a walking stick made from hazelwood, ideal for my dog walks and for supporting my ageing limbs. Hazelwood is super lightweight but very strong.

April a month of dramatic climate change. Not just day to day, but within a day.Aprile un mese di drammatici cambiamenti climatici. Non solo giorno per giorno, ma entro un giorno.

Aprils weather has always been a difficult to predict, making it particulary difficult when planting delicate flowers, shrubs and vulnerable fruit and vegetables. The April has been extreme, with 10°c swings from day to day, in fact last week, the swing was from 23°c to 5°c over night . Added to all this activity, there has been a constant cold northerly wind. We hope for the flowers and indeed our guests that some normality returns in May....traditionally known as the month of roses, but also the glorious displays of azaleas.                                                                                                       .Il clima di aprile è sempre stato difficile da prevedere, rendendolo particolarmente difficile quando si piantano fiori delicati, arbusti e frutta e verdura vulnerabili. L'aprile è stato estremo, con sbalzi di 10°c da un giorno all'altro, infatti la scorsa settimana, l'oscillazione è stata da 23°c a 5°c durante la notte. In aggiunta a tutta questa attività, c'è stato un costante vento freddo da nord. Speriamo per i fiori e per i nostri ospiti che ritorni un po' di normalità a maggio....tradizionalmente noto come il mese delle rose, ma anche delle gloriose esibizioni delle azalee.

Snow in the mountains this morning. Stamattina neve in montagna!

Spring is just around the corner delayed only by a very chilly wind. La primavera è dietro l'angolo, ritardata solo da un vento molto freddo.

 The changing seasons always make me reflect on this astonishing landscape and the contrast, from the alpine to almost the mediteranean within an hours drive. A few stunning photos (some by Lidia Erigoni) that illustrate this glorious phenomina. Perhaps one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe .                                              Il cambio delle stagioni mi fa sempre riflettere su questo paesaggio sorprendente e sul contrasto, dall'alpino al quasi mediterraneo in un'ora di macchina. Alcune splendide foto (alcune di Lidia Erigoni) che illustrano questo glorioso fenomeno. Forse uno dei paesaggi più belli d'Europa.
