"Mad dogs and Englishmen" cutting the grass on Boxing day, Stropino 2016.The expression was one of the legendary lyrics from one of Noel Coward's songs, going back to the 1930's. Originally it refered to Englishmen continuing to work in the "mid day sun" and portrays the eccentricity of certain Englishmen!
Cutting the grass on the 26th December does seem a bit bizarre, bur so too are temperaures of 15"c. Sunshine abounds all this week, and according to the meteo forecast, should be frost free.
Autumn finished and winter arrived almost overnight, leaving a few untidy areas in the garden in need of maintainance. This flurry of mild weather I saw as my window of opportunity.
I wouldn't be surprised if we had a metre of snow next week!!

Christmas Day with the Maulini family, is always very special. For Penny and I it has become a tradition over the years, were we are invited into the home as one of tghe family. You cannot measure the warmth of the welcome,or describe some of the extraordinary food. We thank you once again for your kindness, from the bottom of our hearts.

Belgirate, Lesa and home to Stropino before dusk.After a mornings Christmas shopping, my stress levels were high, so a perfect opportunity to take some excercise and fresh air and unwind,And hopefully the daylight will allow a few varied photos which portray the stillness and the calm. Afterwards home to the welcome and the warmth of a blazing fire in the stove.
Belgirate, Lesa e finalmente a casa a Stropino prima del tramonto. Dopo una mattina di shopping natalizio, i miei livelli di stress erano alti, quindi una perfetta opportunità per prendere un po 'di esercitazione e di aria fresca e rilassarsi, e si spera la luce del giorno permetteranno alcune foto che ritraggono vari la quiete e la calma. The road from Ragusa to Noto. Sicily October 2016. A painting which attempts to capture the beauty of this barren landscape, and also the solitude.In our journey of around two hours, we passed one car and a tractor.

Atmospheric tones of a dreary Autumnal day. With the moisture laden clouds descending from the mountains and the mist rising from the lake, We have the perfect cocktail, for moss, mushrooms and arthritis.
Tomorrows weather forcast, prosmisies very heaving rain, which unfortunately may be with us for the next five days!
Thankfully I have the warmth of my art studio, and a challenging painting of an image. A photograph taken on a recent holiday in sun baked Sicily. A timely distraction that will transport me to another place until the better weather prevails.

Per fortuna ho il calore del mio studio d'arte, e un dipinto impegnativo di un'immagine. Una fotografia scattata in una recente vacanza al sole cotto Sicilia. Una distrazione tempestivo che mi trasporterà in un altro luogo fino a quando il tempo migliore prevale.

A rewarding walk just before dusk. After two miserable days of rain and low cloud, both Pepper (my faithful border collie sheep dog) and I needed the benefit of some fresh air and excercise. The forecast for next week is bright and sunny, but very cold with the first frost precicted, and temperatures around minus 2°c
Monday is the start of my art classes, so in preparation, I have started a landscape picture of Sicily, after a recent holiday, and also for the grandchildren I have painted a comical hedgehog! I thought this little animal would be easy, but the detail and the colours are very difficult, also I have been so busy writing my book that I haven't painted for almost 9 months!.Busy times withe the Bed and Breakfast too.
Un gratificante passeggiata poco prima del tramonto. Dopo due giorni miseri di pioggia e nubi basse, sia Pepper (mio fedele border collie pecore cane) e ho bisogno il beneficio di una boccata d'aria fresca e di esercitazione. La previsione per la prossima settimana è luminoso e soleggiato, ma molto freddo con il primo gelo precicted, e temperature intorno ai meno 2 ° C
