Mottarone today, cold and sunny with mist rising from the lake. I am on a festive wreath making mission and I am looking for the seasonal, pine cones, and holly berries to decorate it with. This year however not a berry in sight! I have looked in our local forest at the back of our house which is normally rich in berries, but nothing! Even our pyracantha hedge has been stripped bare, so I am concerned for the hungry birds this winter. It is most unusual to have no berries in December...maybe the very wet Autumn, or the sudden change in temperatures?

Mottarone oggi, freddo e soleggiato con nebbia che sale dal lago. Sono in missione per fare una ghirlanda festiva e sto cercando le stagionali, le pigne e le bacche di agrifoglio con cui decorarla. Quest'anno però non è una bacca in vista! Ho guardato nella nostra foresta locale sul retro della nostra casa che è normalmente ricca di bacche, ma niente! Anche la nostra siepe di pyracantha è stata spogliata, quindi sono preoccupato per gli uccelli affamati questo inverno. È molto insolito non avere bacche a dicembre ... forse l'autunno molto umido o l'improvviso sbalzo di temperatura?

In fact up there a wonderful blue sky awaited us, above the blanket of clouds stratified at low altitude.
From Rassa immediately climbs a steep mule track up to Vaz and then path for the Piana. CAI 400 signposts.
Then the Barbughera alp and the Alpe Campello meet on a splendid snowy plateau.
Unfortunately the last ridge was dangerous to cross, the snow was at risk of avalanches, so we gave up reaching the summit.
Beautiful view however, on the Rosa and all the peaks of the Val Sesia.

Infatti lassù ci attendeva un meraviglioso cielo azzurro, sopra la coltre di nuvole stratificata a bassa quota.

Da Rassa sale immediatamente una ripida mulattiera fino a Vaz e poi sentiero per la Piana. Cartelli CAI 400.

Quindi l'alpe Barbughera e l'Alpe Campello si incontrano su uno splendido altopiano innevato.

Purtroppo l'ultima cresta era pericolosa da attraversare, la neve era a rischio di valanghe, quindi abbiamo rinunciato a raggiungere la vetta.

Bella vista comunque sulla Rosa e su tutte le cime della Val Sesia.

The photo's are of Fondotoce, and Feriolo where I stopped for a short walk in the warm sunshine and admired the backdrop of snow capped mountains, and brilliant blue skies.
Mancano poche settimane a Natale ed è quasi come il Mediterraneo sul Lago Maggiore oggi.
Le foto sono di Fondotoce e di Feriolo dove mi sono fermato per una breve passeggiata sotto il caldo sole e ho ammirato lo sfondo di montagne innevate e cieli blu brillante.

The beauty remains even in this stark winters landscape.Mentre si avvicina l'inverno, rimane ancora una bellezza nel paesaggio rigido, le nuvole gettano una valle misteriosa, sopra le vaste foreste dormienti.

Taking advantage of a respite from the bad weather, today the Sacchi alp and a visit to the majestic “Fo’ ad l'umbrela ”.Approfittando di una tregua del maltempo, oggi alpe Sacchi e visita al maestoso “Fo’ ad l’umbrela”.

Approfittando di una tregua del maltempo, oggi alpe Sacchi e visita al maestoso “Fo’ ad l’umbrela”.

At last some sunshine, but only a brief respite after a month of rain. Finalmente un po 'di sole, ma solo una breve tregua dopo un mese di pioggia.

At last some sunshine, but only a brief respite after a month of rain. Making the most of the day I took the dogs for a long walk through the forest, and on our return I took a few photographs around Magognino, and Brisno which has nice lake views.
Finalmente un po 'di sole, ma solo una breve tregua dopo un mese di pioggia. Sfruttando al meglio la giornata, ho portato i cani a fare una lunga passeggiata attraverso la foresta e al nostro ritorno ho fatto alcune fotografie intorno a Magognino e Brisno che ha una bella vista sul lago.
