The new moon sees frantic activity in the garden, with plants visibily changing from morning to afternoon. The bright vibrant blossoms on the fruit trees holds the prospect of shelves full of marmalatta jars later in the year.
Tonight has the added bomus of the clocks going forward, so longer days,and brighter evenings.At this time of year, there simply are not enough hours in the day.

La luna nuova vede frenetica attività in giardino, con piante visibily cambiano dalla mattina al pomeriggio. I fiori vivaci sugli alberi da frutto contiene la prospettiva di scaffali pieni di vasetti marmalatta più tardi nel corso dell'anno.
 Stasera ha il valore aggiunto degli orologi andare avanti, in modo più lungo e più luminoso days.At questo periodo dell'anno, semplicemente non ci sono abbastanza ore in un giorno.

Lago di Mergozzo: una piccola cittadina calma e indisturbata, rientra negli itinerari della Casa del giardinierie

A few kilometres west of Verbania, going north, is a small peaceful area that conceals a lovely town:
Mergozzo.The lake, which in the olden days was joined to Lake Maggiore before the debris transported by the Toce River created a natural barrier. It is found at an altitude of about 194 ,, is 10 km long and it's maximum depth is 73 m.The clean still waters make it perfect for water sports, sailing, windsurfing, and fishing.
The mushroom filled woods surrounding the lake, offer numerous walks,with wide panoramic views of the Alps, Lake Maggiore, even the Po plain can be enjoyed towards the Alpe Vercio, Alpe Ompio or Montorfano.
 

A pochi chilometri a ovest di Verbania, andando verso nord, vi è  una piccola area che racchiude Mergozzo. Il lago era originariamente parte del lago Maggiore poi i detriti del fiume Toce hanno creato una barriera. E’ lungo 10km ed è profondo  al massimo 73m. l’acqua così pulita favorisce gli sports acquatici, e la pesca.

Le montagne che circondano il lago sono ricche di funghi e offrono numerosi sentieri da percorrere con una vista panoramica sulle Alpi, il lago Maggiore e il Po unito attraverso alpe Vercio, alpe Ompio e Montorfano.

The spit of land that divides the two lakes is visible at the Fondotoce Estuary, where the nature reserve and bird sanctuary are well established. It's also a lovely walk, which is well sign posted, or alternatively it can be discovered on the mountain bike trails.

 

Vista sopra il lago di Mergozzo guardando verso il lago Maggiore dall’alpe Vercio. La parte di terra che divide i due laghi è visibile dall’estuario di Fondotoce, una riserva naturalistica che ospita una grande varietà di uccelli. E’ anche una piacevole passeggiata, il sentiero è ben segnalato ed è anche percorribile con le mountain bike.

The Romanesque Church of San Giovanni, dating back to the 12th century, made of local stone with large blocks of granite covered with gneiss. Going on to Candoglia, two kilometres from Mergozzo, we come across the quarries from which the delicate pink marble used to cover the Dome in Milan(Duomo di Milano.)where taken six centuries ago.

La Chiesa di San Giovanni in stile romanico, risale al 12 secolo costruita con il sasso del luogo, grandi blocchi di granito coperti di gneis.  Andando a Candoglia , a due chilometri da Mergozzo, ci imbattiamo nelle cave da dove il granito rosa viene estratto ,è la stessa pietra usata per la costruzione del Duomo di Milano sei secoli fa.

Whoopee...could this be Spring? Potrebbe essere questa primavera?

 I never tire of  Lake Maggiore's changing moods.This scene is captured on the fringe of Magognino today whilst on my way to Stresa's market.

Non mi stancherò mai dei laghi mutevoli umore.Questo scena catturato ai margini della Magognino, mentre oggi per la mia strada al mercato di Stresa.

 A little bit further down the hills to Binda, gazing over to Laveno. The mist is just so typical of this time of year, although the massive temperature variations, have added to this phenomena.Last week was -7°c  today we have +16°c, incredible!

Un po 'più giù per le colline a Binda, guardando verso Laveno. La nebbia è così tipico di questo periodo dell'anno, anche se le variazioni di temperatura enormi, hanno aggiunto a questa settimana phenomena.Last era -7 ° c oggi abbiamo +16 ° c, incredibile!

 An appointment in Intra today to renew my driving licence, gives me the opportunity to snap away at some of the towns mixed architecture. Here seen from the Piaza Mercato the imposing dome of San Vittore, and in the foreground a cerca 1960's abomination!
Ho un appuntamento oggi a Intra per in rinnovo della patente di guida. Questa mi da l'opportunità di ammirare la svariata architettura del paese.
Qui da piazza mercato si vede l'imponente duomo di San Vittore e sullo sfondo mediocri palazzi degli anni 60's non in tema con il resto dell 'architettura.

 This would you believe is 4.00pm on a Friday afternoon. Normally the Piaza Ranzoni is thronged with shoppers, but this is visual evidence of the hard economic times facing the Province. 
Che  voi ci crediate o no sono le 4 del pomeriggio del venerdi. Normalmente Piazza Ranzoni pullula di gente intenta allo shopping, ma pare che la crisi si sneta anche qui.
Intra was once referred to as the Manchester of the lake because of it's Textile and Chemical Industry, but unfortunately it's decline is mirrored by it's namesakes demise.The bowl of rice syndrome, and its cheap Far East imports.
Intra una volta era chiamata la Manchester del Lago per la sua inditria tessile e chimica, ma purtroppo è in declino.

La suggestiva via San Fabiano con il suo acciottolato un pò dimesso a causa delle riparazioni di fortuna in asfalto.Le facciate delle case un po' disordinate.

Winter arrives with avengence L' inverno è arrivato!!!

What a difference a day makes!... 24 hours ago we had cloudless skies. Last nights snow brought very heavy falls which have completely transformed the landscape. Pretty as it looks, the weather wreaked chaos bringing power cables down and causing immeasurable damage to trees and mature shrubs in the garden. The sheer weight of the snow was devastating splitting limbs, and whole trees. I spent six hours waist deep clearing compacted snow, it was like rescuing victims from an avalanche.
Che differenza da un giorno con l'altro! 24 ora fa avevano cielo nuvoloso. La notte scorsa invece ha portato la neve che ha sconvolto il nostro paesaggio. La vista è splendida ma il peso della neve ha danneggiato gli alberi ed i bulbi maturi del nostro giardino.Il pesante ammasso di neve ha addirittura spezzato dei rami di un grosso albero. Ho passato sei ore completamente immerso nella neve  a spalare come quando si cercando le vittime da soccorrere dopo una slavina!

 Respite as the weather eases...and that magical moment of  calm stillness and beauty  
...ma il  paesaggio è spettacolare, un magico momento di rara bellezza.

Clean up time and what a task in hand. This snow was heavy in moisture and backbreaking work. Pity Pepper couldn't lend a hand...he thought it was great fun leaping into deep drifts!
Peccato che Pepper non possa aiutarmi a spalare, ha penato che fosse meglio divertirsi tuffandosi nella neve!

Penny's trusty 4x4 may be put through it's paces today...although we normally have provisions in abundance, well stocked shelves and bulging freezers.Popping out to the shops in an Alpine winter can be  a white knuckle ride, adventurous to say the least.
La fidata auto 4x4 di Penny oggi farà il suo dovere. Sebbene abbiamo provviste in abbondanza dobbiamo uscire, e andare per negozi all'Alpino sarà un 'impresa.

La strada ora facilmente percorribile grazie all' intervento encomiabile dei servizi del Comune con i loro mezzi per tenere in ordine le strada in queste circostanze critiche.
