Today was THE ideal day for those who love going to the mountains😍😍
The sky was clear, without wind, in an autumn surprised by the first snow.
The gold larches shone in the sun, soft at each encounter. Silence, pleasant temperature, solitude and lucky sightings. (fotos courtesy of Lidia Erigoni :-)

Il cielo era limpido, senza vento, in un autunno sorpreso dalla prima neve.
I larici d'oro splendevano al sole, morbidi ad ogni incontro. Silenzio, temperatura piacevole, solitudine e avvistamenti fortunati.(Foto per gentile concessione di Lidia Erigoni. )

It's that time of year again, a frenzied activity to prepare for winter. The shelves in the pantry are full of Penny's home made pasta sauces,and a variety of fruit jams from the garden. The freezer is full of preserves, soups, and fruits for making cakes and buns, and the wonderful hazlenut crumbles!
Yesterday weather was devastating in it's ferocity, gale force winds, 95 mm of rain, and sleet, and hail stones as big as golf balls!. Today by contrast we have the most magnificent blue sky, so clear and bright, a shade of blue that you only find in Italy. It lifts the spirits and gives one a boost to attack the mountain of work that has to be done. The extrior woodwork on the house,is always rub down with abrasive paper, varnish and apply a protective coating. A tedious task, but essential for winters extremes. The garden still has to be pruned, certain varieties can be cut now, others have to wait sometimes until January or February to ensure the old growth is removed, allowing you to be selective at which new growth you keep.
È di nuovo quel periodo dell'anno, un'attività frenetica per prepararsi all'inverno. Gli scaffali della dispensa sono pieni di sughi di pasta fatti in casa di Penny e una varietà di marmellate di frutta dal giardino. Il congelatore è pieno di conserve, zuppe e frutta per preparare torte e focacce e le meravigliose nocciole si sbriciolano!
Ieri il tempo è stato devastante nella sua ferocia, venti di burrasca, 95 mm di pioggia e nevischio e pietre di grandine grandi come palline da golf !. Oggi, al contrario, abbiamo il più magnifico cielo blu, così limpido e luminoso, una sfumatura di blu che trovi solo in Italia. Solleva gli spiriti e dà una spinta per attaccare la montagna di lavoro che deve essere fatto. La lavorazione del legno extrior sulla casa, è sempre strofinare con carta abrasiva, vernice e applicare un rivestimento protettivo. Un compito noioso, ma essenziale per gli inverni estremi. Il giardino deve ancora essere potato, alcune varietà possono essere tagliate ora, altre devono aspettare a volte fino a gennaio o febbraio per assicurarsi che la vecchia crescita venga rimossa, permettendoti di essere selettivo su quale nuova crescita mantieni.

Glorious October,with chilly mornings and thermal vests,and by afternoon T shirt and shorts! A few photographs I took this afternoon walking from our home in Stropino, to Brisino, and returning via the woods and meadows of Motta del Santo.
Glorioso ottobre, con mattine fredde e gilet termici, e nel pomeriggio maglietta e pantaloncini! Alcune fotografie che ho fatto questo pomeriggio camminando da casa nostra a Stropino, a Brisino, e tornando attraverso i boschi e i prati di Motta del Santo.

 Leaving home with a cloudy day, in Devero we found instead a wonderful clear sky. Never give up !!

Uscendo da casa con una giornata nuvolosa, a Devero abbiamo trovato invece un meraviglioso cielo limpido. Non mollare mai !!
