Activity weekends at La Casa del Giardiniere Bed and Breakfast.

We are entering our third week of all time record breaking rain.To summarize, schools have been closed, rail links severed with landslides, and whole sections of the lakeside towns and villages are flooded with no access. Driving around locally is not to be recommended as deep surface water sometimes hides  ruptured pipe, and dangerous pot holes.
The road to La Casa del Giardiniere Bed and Breakfast is passable with care.
We were considering "Activity weekends where guests partake in making  sand bagging flood defences, or a crash course in rubble removal, driving an excavator scooping up the debris" what fantastic way to spend your weekend, and you make new friends too....whoopee!..Book immediately to avoid disappointment!
 Stiamo entrando la nostra terza settimana di ogni tempo record rain.To riassumere, le scuole sono state chiuse, collegamenti ferroviari interrotti con la frana, e intere sezioni del lago sono inondati di accesso. Guidare in giro a livello locale non è raccomandato in quanto le acque di superficie in profondità a volte nasconde un tubo rotto, un pericoloso buche.

La strada per La Casa del Giardiniere Bed and Breakfast è passabile con cura.

Eravamo considerando "fine settimana di attività in cui gli ospiti partecipare al processo di difesa di sabbia insaccamento inondazioni, o un corso accelerato di rimozione delle macerie, alla guida di un escavatore scavare i detriti" che modo fantastico per trascorrere il tuo weekend, e fare nuove amicizie troppo .... whoopee! .. As winter nights draw in, I'm grateful for a few hours sanity at the Stresa Art class who's teacher Patricia Pollato is a constant source of guidance and inspiration.The "Winter sun on snow" follows in impressionistic footsteps, albeit mine is ever so humble. An encouraging start...I fancy with lots of applications.
 Come notti d'inverno si accorciano, sono grato per una sanità mentale poche ore alla classe di arte Stresa che è insegnante Patricia Pollato è una costante fonte di guida e di inspiration. "sole invernale sulla neve" segue le orme impressionisti, anche se il mio è sempre così umile. Un inizio incoraggiante ... immagino con un sacco di applicazioni. Spero che vi piaccia!

Sunny Stropino today and what a welcome relief from the earlier devastation.Driving locally today it's hard to imagine the scene of chaos as the deluge arrived only 24 hours earlier, apart from the damaged roads, there is hardly a sign of the flood water, it's almost like waking from a bad dream.

 Soleggiato Stropino oggi e ciò che un rilievo dalla devastazione precedente. Guidare a livello locale oggi è difficile immaginare la scena di caos come il diluvio è arrivato solo 24 ore prima, a parte le strade danneggiate, non c'è praticamente un segno d'acqua, è quasi come svegliarsi da un brutto sogno.

Well this year has seen it's wettest summer on record, and if today is anything to go by, then this will be it's wettest Autumn. 
After days of unbelievably heavy non stop rain (estimated 20mm per hour), this afternoon saw a crescendo as levels peaked causing landslides, and flash flooding, I watched in horror as sleepy little lanes turned into treacherous raging rivers.  I had an appointment in Stresa today and set off earlier anticipating some disruption, but nothing prepared me for the ordeal I had in store. The usual 10 minute drive took over an hour, with roads closed, or filled with huge boulders, tree branches and sundry debris floating by in the torrent my car was bashed about and bobbled like a wooden toy boat!..Miraculously the engine kept going and I reached home, but only after parking my car in the village. The entrance to our driveway had been washed away, and a huge chasm  almost a metre deep was now evident...welcome to the  Stropino rapids.
It's just typical I spent hours at the weekend giving the garden a hard prune, and decided it was opportune to feed the fruit trees with manure, in readiness for winter. All that hard work, the soil, and the nutrition all washed away , leaving twisted and gnarled trees and shrubs with exposed roots! What a start to winter!
On a positive note, the local workers for the (Council) Comune were here to the rescue within hours with mechanical diggers scooping up the debris and making temporary repairs!..Absolutely brilliant..what a service and a reflection of the general support dedication and caring we receive from the local council workers. Please accept our grateful thank you's for your timely intervention.
 
Beh, quest'anno ha visto è più piovosa estate a verbale, e se oggi è tutto da seguire, allora questo sarà è più piovoso autunno.

Dopo giorni di incredibilmente pesante pioggia non stop (20 mm stimato per ora), questo pomeriggio ha visto un crescendo, come i livelli di picco causando frane e inondazioni improvvise, mi vide con orrore vicoli assonnati trasformate in fiumi impetuosi insidiosi. Avevo un appuntamento a Stresa oggi e parto prima anticipando alcuni disagi, ma niente mi ha preparato per la prova che avevo in serbo. I 10 minuti di auto al solito ha preso più di un'ora, con le strade chiuse, o piena di enormi massi, rami degli alberi e detriti vari galleggianti nel torrente mio gatto è stato sbattuto su e bobbled come una barca giocattolo di legno! .. Miracolosamente il motore continuava a e giunsi a casa, ma solo dopo aver parcheggiato la mia auto in paese. L'ingresso per la nostra strada era stato lavato via, e un enorme voragine profonda quasi un metro era ormai evidente ... benvenuti a rapide Stropino.

E 'solo tipico ho passato ore nel fine settimana dando al giardino una prugna duro, e ho deciso che era opportuno nutrire gli alberi da frutto con letame, pronto per l'inverno. Tutto ciò che il duro lavoro, la terra, e la nutrizione tutto spazzato via, lasciando alberi e arbusti contorti e nodosi con radici esposte! Che inizio di inverno!

Una nota positiva, i lavoratori locali per il (Consiglio) Comune erano qui per il soccorso in poche ore con pale meccaniche raccogliendo i detriti e le riparazioni temporanee! .. Assolutamente brilliant..what un servizio e un riflesso del sostegno generale e cura che riceviamo da parte dei lavoratori comunali. Si prega di accettare il nostro riconoscente ringraziamento è per il vostro tempestivo intervento.

After yet another hectic weekend with lovely guests we finally had a few hours free this afternoon. We hurriedly ate lunch and then drove through the forests to Alpino where we started our walk.The best of the sunshine was this morning but we were thankful for the afternoon light even if it was a bit hazy. The forest was almost deserted just the occasional forager looking for mushrooms. I've added a few photo's that capture the Autumn mood...Afterwards we called at Paola's place Locanda Verbena in Vezzo for a hot chocolate for Penny and a pot of tea for myself. I think as the chill mist descends it may be "feet up" and  a cosy log fire tonight!

Dopo l'ennesimo fine settimana frenetico con gli ospiti incantevoli abbiamo finalmente avuto un paio d'ore libere di questo pomeriggio. Abbiamo fretta pranzato e poi siamo andati attraverso le foreste di Alpino, dove abbiamo iniziato la nostra walk.The meglio del sole è stato questa mattina, ma siamo stati grati per la luce del pomeriggio, anche se era un po 'confuso. La foresta era quasi deserta solo il raccoglitore occasionale in cerca di funghi. Ho aggiunto alcune foto che catturano l'umore autunno ... Poi abbiamo chiamato a casa di Paola Locanda Verbena in Vezzo per una cioccolata calda per Penny e una tazza di tè per me stesso. Credo che come la nebbia freddo scende può essere "i piedi" e stasera accogliente caminetto!

Tutti i Santi, Festa dei Morti

 This special weekend of remembrance is often a combined to make it a restful few days of holiday, spent with friends and also visiting relatives (alive and deceased).We have had the pleasure of Bruno and Anna, and Bruno's mother Theresa staying with us from Cuneo.The weather has been beautiful sunny and dry making Stresa all the more appealing added to which there was a "Festival of Chocolate"held in the main square, so as you can imagine huge crowds arriving from nearby Milan and the suburbs! For Penny and I after lunch today we hope to go to the mountains, for peace and quite and also to give Pepper a good walk, before the onset of winter. The forecast for the next few days is horrible (Brutto)

 Italy - Reverence for the dead as one of the central pillars of Christianity in Italy? Using that as lens you begin to notice how true this is. For example, this Saturday, November 1st, is Tutti i Santi or Ognissanti (All Saints’ Day) while November 2nd, Sunday, is the Festa dei Morti or Commemorazione dei Defunti (Celebration of the Dead) when a great majority of Italian families go to the cemetery to visit their loved ones. Mind you, “Vado a trovare i miei” doesn’t mean “I’m going to visit the graves of my loved ones,” it means “I am going to visit my loved ones.” The difference is subtle but significant.

 Questo fine settimana speciale del ricordo è spesso combinati per rendere un soggiorno rilassante paio di giorni di vacanza, trascorsi con gli amici e anche parenti in visita (vivi e non deceduto) .Abbiamo avuto il piacere di Bruno e Anna, e di Bruno madre Teresa stare con noi da Cuneo.The tempo è stato bello fare soleggiato e secco Stresa tanto più attraente aggiunto che c'era un "Festival del Cioccolato" che si tiene nella piazza principale, così come si può immaginare folle enormi che arrivano dalla vicina Milano e la periferia! Per Penny e io dopo il pranzo di oggi speriamo di andare in montagna, per la pace e tranquillità e anche per dare pepe una bella passeggiata, prima dell'arrivo dell'inverno. Le previsioni per i prossimi giorni è orribile (Brutto)
  Italia - Il rispetto per i morti come uno dei pilastri centrali del cristianesimo in Italia? L'utilizzo che come obiettivo si inizia a notare quanto questo sia vero. Ad esempio, questo Sabato 1 novembre Tutti i Santi è o Ognissanti (Ognissanti), mentre 2 novembre Domenica, è la Festa dei Morti o Commemorazione dei Defunti (Festa dei Morti), quando la grande maggioranza delle famiglie italiane andare al cimitero a visitare i loro cari. Intendiamoci, "Vado a trovare i miei" non vuol dire "Vado a visitare le tombe dei miei cari," vuol dire "Vado a trovare i miei cari." La differenza è sottile ma significativa.
